In the previous article, we discussed the definition of a blog in digital marketing.

They are a great way to showcase your knowledge. Like tissues are made up of cells, similarly blogs are made up of valuable and original content. Content is a building block; you don't want to bet on its quality. Before writing any piece of article, ask these questions to yourself.

· What value does it hold?

· How is it useful to the readers?

· What information are we giving that they will not find somewhere else?

· What would make the reader share our blog on social media or share it with their colleagues?

Do you read newspaper or magazine? If yes, why do you read it? Maybe for information, entertainment or any other purpose.

Think from the reader’s point of view before creating any content. Any content you create should be easy to read and understand. It has been found that the use of mobile phones has left users with a very small attention span. They want the information quickly and effortlessly. So make it your number one priority. Don't tire your reader.

How can we achieve it?

Add photographs

Placing photographs in between the text makes it alluring and also pleases the eyes of the reader. It allows the reader to refresh itself after reading long paragraphs. Images easily attract the attention of the reader. We all must be aware of the fact that print sometimes say more than the words. But what kind of photo should we use. Select the images that directly or indirectly compliments your content.

Suppose you are writing about medicine, do you think it would be inappropriate to use an image of X-ray? If you ask me X-ray is a medical test and helps the doctor diagnose the problem in the body and thus help him prescribe the medicine based on the results. So X-ray is indirectly related to medicine and you can use that photograph in your blog.

Before adding any photo in your blog, always look for copyright. Using an image without the consent of the creator may land you into legal trouble. Learn the difference between different types of licenses, and which kind of images you can use with or without attribution (or not at all).

You may use an image bank for selecting images for your blog.

Free platforms

Another alternative to your problem is using Google to find the photos for your blogs.

Click on usage rights and select creative common licenses

You now have access to tons of free images.

Now let us discuss this hack on Getty images.

Click on the image and then click on embed option.
Copy and paste the code in your HTML section of your blog

Now you can easily use these paid images in your blogs. However, you are still not eligible to use this images for commercial purposes.

Video is an easy and effective way of communication.Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research says that "One minute of video is worth 1.8 million words". Embedding a video with text provides the reader with enriched information, and hence we fulfil our sole motive of serving our readers. Now there is a hack which I have myself used sometimes. When you are unable to think what to write in your blog, pick a video related to your topic, watch it and write it in your blog and then embed the same video to your blog. Just don't overdo it. Now, remember, YouTube is not the only video service in town. You can use Vimeo to find videos or you can search on Google as well. Due to Google search algorithm, we can ensure the videos are of good quality.

We can also select videos for our blog from Facebook. However, due to the rivalry between Google and Facebook, Google does not easily surface results from Facebook. But we can force google to search exclusively from Facebook. If you want to search vegan, type "vegan". Be specific in writing the syntax, there is no space between "site" and "".

The visual quality of your blog

We know content is the king, but how you present it also matters. Your blog should fulfill certain human psychological needs.

  1. As far as fonts are concerned you may use:
  • Verdana
  • Arial
  • Azuro
  • Other sans-serif fonts

2. Your font size should be 14. Smaller than that makes it difficult to read. Font size larger than that makes your article looks way longer, thus posing a threat on its acceptance by the reader.

3. A 1.5  line spacing is appropriate. Line spacing in word is 120% of font size. Thus a 12pt font size has 14.4pt line spacing. This is what Word refers to as single line spacing.

Line spacing refers to the vertical space from the same point on one line to the same point on the next, within the same paragraph

4.You can use black fonts or dark grey fonts on a white background. I personally prefer dark grey fonts on a white background.

5. Always use bullets and numbering, wherever possible, to enhance the readability of your blog. People don't like reading huge blocks of text.

You may also use links of other sites that will compliment your content. This provides your reader with valuable and additional content. It serves your reader well and shows you are not afraid of competition.

Remember, our goal is to teach, not advertise. So avoid writing your blog in a promotional way. However, if your product or services are related to the content of your blog, you may add those links to your blog. There is always a scope of improvement in your blog.We must also not forget that nothing prevents us from making changes to our work after it is posted. It is not like an article in the newspaper or magazine. You can edit your article after it is published.

Content creation is not a difficult task , if you are writing something about which you are passionate. The above mentioned tips will help you create content like professionals.
